A LOVE of the outdoors has seen husband and wife Steve Carnell and Nina Ethell take on their own landscaping venture, Surf Coast Landscapes.<\/p>\n
Based in Ocean Grove, the family-owned-andoperated business services the Bellarine, Surf Coast and Geelong.<\/p>\n
With a team of five staff, Surf Coast Landscapes is a passion project for Steve who thoroughly enjoys working outside and getting his hands dirty.<\/p>\n
\u201cI started with a degree in environmental science. While I was studying, I worked as a casual labourer for a landscaper,\u201d Steve said.<\/p>\n
\u201cI found that I just loved the work \u2013 there\u2019s a real sense of accomplishment and pride when we\u2019ve turned a bare piece of earth or a tired old garden into something new, lush and inviting for years to come.\u201d<\/p>\n
Motivated by sustainable and creative design, Steve combines his knowledge of the environment with Nina\u2019s art and design background to deliver outstanding results.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe offer all aspects of landscaping from hard scapes such as concreting, paving, retaining walls, decks, outdoor seating, fire pits, water features, irrigation, lighting, and soft scaping such as edible gardens, turf, planting and mulching.\u201d<\/p>\n
Steve said each design is drawn up with water wise principles in mind to achieve the most sustainable outcomes for his clients.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe are specialists in designing and constructing native, coastal, modern gardens that suit our idyllic Aussie lifestyle, bringing the wildlife back and blending seamlessly into our surrounds,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n
Steve and Nina moved to the region from Melbourne about 10 years ago in search of a sea change. The couple said they love raising their children in the area.<\/p>\n
Surf Coast Landscapes is also committed to supporting other small businesses, sourcing all its materials, plants, printing and uniforms from local suppliers.<\/p>\n
Steve, who also coaches junior cricket team the Collendina Cobras, said the best part about living in Ocean Grove was the surf.<\/p>\n
