As the Winter Solstice approaches, Theatre 3Triple2 are preparing to present two original plays at the Potato Shed in Drysdale.<\/p>\n
Now in its 11th year, the 2019 Winter Solstice One Act Plays both revolve around animal themes.<\/p>\n
The Housesitter and Hot Dog are the plays written by local writers Petrina Dakin and Denis Walters.<\/p>\n
The first play being presented is Hot Dog, inspired by the chance adoption of a former racing greyhound, injured at the track.<\/p>\n
Now known as Rucci The Wonder Dog, he appears on stage throughout the play, and gives true insight into a relationship between a man and his dog.<\/p>\n
The themes revolve around humanity, friendship, the quality of life and what life is worth living for.<\/p>\n
The second play – The Housesitter – is a very contemporary play, following the comings and goings of a middle-aged animal-loving woman, who decides to house sit, rent free, while caring for the other people\u2019s pets.<\/p>\n
This itinerant lifestyle, while providing a \u2018safe\u2019 roof plus many friends of the furry, feathered and scaly kind, is also isolating and lonely.<\/p>\n
The work is delivered with humour and understanding.<\/p>\n
As usual the venue will feature open welcoming fires, warm mulled wine and live musical entertainment \u2013 this year with Joseph Stanaway playing the Handpan Drum creating a warm inviting atmosphere in the foyer.<\/p>\n
Patrons can also view a wonderful exhibition of performance photographs from esteemed photographer Ivan Kemp.<\/p>\n
As this year\u2019s themes show the importance of animals in our lives, the Potato Shed and Theatre 3Triple2 are asking patrons to donate to Geelong Animal Welfare (GAWS), with pet food, blankets or a cash donation.<\/p>\n
There will be three performances of the plays at the Potato Shed on Friday June 21 at 8pm, a matinee on Saturday June 22 at 2pm and then at night at 8pm.<\/p>\n
