DRYSDALE Soccer Club and FC Leopold have been in mourning after the sudden loss of DSC stalwart Andrew ‘Shearsy’ Shears.<\/p>\n
Andrew was instrumental in the early years at FC Leopold as well as his huge involvement at Drysdale; son Ben Shears plays in the current FC Leopold team, while daughter Isabel Shears plays for Drysdale.<\/p>\n
Somewhat fittingly in the women’s division 2 competition, the teams were due to meet at the weekend.<\/p>\n
The match was played in tricky conditions on a wet muddy pitch and got underway after a minute\u2019s silence to honour Andrew.<\/p>\n
Both teams wore black armbands as a mark of respect in what was to be a 10-goal thriller, finishing five goals apiece in a game that epitomised tough hard running at the ball and never giving up.<\/p>\n
A spokesperson for the clubs said Shearsy will have been chuckling from on high at the game and would have been delighted with the result, effort and camaraderie across the teams.<\/p>\n
