SURF Coast Football Club enjoyed a stellar weekend with both the Men\u2019s and Women\u2019s Senior teams jumping to outright top spot on their respective competition ladders, after the previous table toppers didn\u2019t play their games due to inclement weather.<\/p>\n
Men\u2019s Senior team \u2013<\/p>\n
The Men\u2019s Senior team came away from Laverton Park Reserve in Melbourne\u2019s outer west with a convincing 4-1 victory over Laverton FC to momentarily assume top spot on the State League 4 standings.<\/p>\n
The previous competition front runner Altona North had its game in Gisborne called off due to a waterlogged pitch and will have the game rescheduled for the August catch up round.<\/p>\n
Teen superstar Mylton Bailey scored the opener after just four minutes before the home side found the equaliser shortly afterwards.<\/p>\n
Bailey was on hand to provide the visitors with the lead on 20 minutes, his 16th goal of a brilliant season so far, which is how the first half ended.<\/p>\n
Five minutes following the resumption of play in the second half, Ryan Boardman made it 3-1 before Matt Linney put the icing on the cake by scoring his 11th goal of the season in the 70th minute.<\/p>\n
The Coasters have opened up a one-point lead at the top of the ladder, with second placed Altona North having a game in hand.<\/p>\n
This weekend, the Coasters are at home to second last placed Melbourne City in Round 14 action. Kick off at Banyul Warri Reserve is at 3pm.<\/p>\n
Women\u2019s Senior team \u2013<\/p>\n
The Women\u2019s Senior team recorded a convincing 6-2 win over Bellarine Sharks in Round 10 action at Lake Reserve in St Leonards on Saturday afternoon.<\/p>\n
Despite the appalling weather to hit the region last Saturday, it was the Kaela Witkowski Show that took centre stage with the Surf Coast sharpshooter hitting the back of the net a staggering five times in the first half alone.<\/p>\n
Hayley Pocklington chipped in with a 21st minute goal to steal some of the limelight, but it was all Coasters leading 6-0 at the break.<\/p>\n
The Sharks managed to pull two goals back in the second half, but it wasn\u2019t enough to trouble the rampaging visitors.<\/p>\n
With North Geelong\u2019s game against Corio Bay to be held this coming Saturday during the midseason Catch Up round, the Coasters have assumed a significant six-point buffer at the top of the Geelong Region Women\u2019s Division 2 ladder.<\/p>\n
As a result of the Catch Up round, the Coasters\u2019 Women will not be in action this coming weekend.<\/p>\n
