A GROUP of ladies from the Bellarine is creating a calendar featuring images of themselves promoting a balanced lifestyle to help raise money for ovarian cancer research.<\/p>\n
The idea came about after local Kerry Jones was talking to some other ladies about what they could do for Women\u2019s Health Week (September 2-6) that would raise more than just a few dollars.<\/p>\n
\u201cAfter discussing it a bit I said, why don\u2019t we do a calendar?\u201d Kerry said.<\/p>\n
\u201c\u2018Well that sounds great,\u2019 they said, \u2018why don\u2019t we?\u2019.<\/p>\n
\u201cThe next question was who will we do it for and ovarian cancer was discussed as a foundation that gets very little support.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe also found out the statistics, which are that four women every day are diagnosed with ovarian cancer and three women die every day from ovarian cancer.<\/p>\n
\u201cSo that was it, and Ovarian Cancer Australia was chosen.\u201d<\/p>\n
Kerry said some of the ladies knew of ovarian cancer victims, so the cause was very close to home.<\/p>\n
She said the A3 16-month calendar would feature photos of some of the women promoting their views that a proper diet, exercise and a general enjoyment and zest for life was crucial to a balanced lifestyle.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe are in the mindset that a combination of all of the above may help if ill health comes to challenge us,\u201d Kerry said.<\/p>\n
\u201cThe majority of ladies in the calendar spend a few days a week slipping in and out of a local gym in Drysdale to keep fit and healthy.\u201d<\/p>\n
Photographer Peter Walz captured the images of the women, with the calendar not too far off the printing stage.<\/p>\n
Advertising space is available in the calendar, and people can buy now and pick theirs up on the night of the launch at SpringDale Community Hall on Saturday August 31 \u2013 doors open at 7.30pm.<\/p>\n
Dr Trudy Clark will be guest speaker on ovarian cancer on the night.<\/p>\n
