BROCK Wells will play his last game for the Bellarine Bears this Saturday before heading to the USA next week to advance his baseball aspirations.<\/p>\n
Wells has secured a two-year scholarship at Central Arizona College.<\/p>\n
CAC recently won the NJCAA world series of baseball in June with a team that included another Geelong local, Liam Spence.<\/p>\n
Wells hopes to secure a further two-year scholarship and then go through to the minor league system. The club will miss his abilities but wish him the very best in the US.<\/p>\n
A Grade played against Lara edging ahead of 4-2 after the top of the third inning, but the Wildcats replied with 12 runs to put the game out of reach for the Bears, going down 17-4.<\/p>\n
A Reserve hit up a storm to put the Wildcats away 17-0.<\/p>\n
Chris Hockey working his way back from injury had five hits from five at bats in a 16 hit game for the Bears, with Sam Lazarus chipping in with two hits, both in the final inning.<\/p>\n
Pat Brackley threw a complete game with seven strike-outs and conceding just four hits and was backed by the division\u2019s most miserly defence.<\/p>\n
B-Reserve crushed Saints Black 14-2 with another outstanding hitting display.<\/p>\n
Bears scored four in the first and 10 in the third. Ethan Weekley with four hits and Andy Riddett with a home run in the first inning.<\/p>\n
C Grade Blue were up against Saints at their annual Go Pink for Cancer Day.<\/p>\n
It\u2019s a great initiative and the Bears had a great day, but ended up on the receiving end of a 15-2 loss.<\/p>\n
C Grade Red played Sunday at Wallington against Lara.<\/p>\n
Some solid hitting by the Bears wasn\u2019t enough to overcome a consistent Lara, who scored consistently through the early innings, eventually going down 14-6.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
