NATIONAL Tree Day in Ocean Grove was a great success with more than 130 people planting 750 trees to create a new urban woodland at Lake Avenue Reserve.<\/p>\n
\u201cIn my opinion planting trees is the best action we can take locally to arrest species extinction in the face of the climate emergency,\u201d local John Bowman said.<\/p>\n
\u201cThe best time to plant a tree was 20 years ago but if my grandchildren have any hope of leading a quality life we have to plant now.<\/p>\n
\u201cTrees are collateral damage to the amount of building going on around town and the canopy is coming down before our eyes.\u201d<\/p>\n
Mr Bowman said the Bellarine Greens and Ocean Grove Coastcare would be brainstorming to find ways to raise funds to grow the urban woodlands.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe may \u2018Go Fund Me\u2019 and we are working on \u2018Bellarine Flying Footprints\u2019, a fund to contribute to when taking a flight,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n
