ABOUT 50 people turned out at Point Richards Flora and Fauna Reserve in Portarlington at the weekend to help plant 1,200 native trees, shrubs and grasses.<\/p>\n

There were lots of families in attendance for Bellarine Bayside\u2019s Bayside Alive! Community Environment Day on Sunday, with kids enthusiastic about the planting.<\/p>\n

The Friends of Point Richards assisted on the day, sharing their extensive knowledge of the reserve with community members.<\/p>\n

Following a barbecue lunch, Bellarine Landcare Group Facilitator Sophie Small brought along a camera on an extendable pole to take a peek inside some of the nesting boxes in the reserve to see whether any native animals had made homes.<\/p>\n

Sophie was very informative and gave a great talk about why the nesting boxes were in the reserve and why they were important.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
