ALEX Brown played her 150th game on July 21. She was appointed captain for the day and led her team through a congratulatory banner along with her two sons.<\/p>\n
Despite being a defender, Alex was given a rare chance up front for the final quarter and proved her versatility and skill by snaring a goal to help her team ensure a 45-point victory over Lara.<\/p>\n
There were few avenues into football for women when Alex was growing up. Alex says her entry into the sport happened when the St. Albans Spurs visited her university campus, offering a can of beer for people who signed up.<\/p>\n
\u201cFrom the first training session I just loved it.\u201d Alex would go on to play over 100 games for St. Albans and was part of their premiership winning team in 2012.<\/p>\n
Soon after Alex would stop playing to become a mother. But it was her eldest sons budding passion for football that encouraged Alex to get back into the game.<\/p>\n
Lady Hawks Coach Stuart Craven said Alex had been an integral part of the Drysdale defence since she joined the club in 2018, while also stating that Alex was a valuable member of the team off the field.<\/p>\n
\u201cHer warm and inclusive personality has made her a much-loved member of the team,\u201d Stuart said. \u201cShe always finds time to help other less experienced players improve their game.\u201d The Lady Hawks are enjoying a very strong season.<\/p>\n
Having finished second on the Division Two ladder, they defeated St Mary\u2019s 76-22 in the Qualifying Final, with Alex being named one of Drysdale\u2019s best players.<\/p>\n
It was a good weekend for Bellarine teams, as Barwon Heads came from behind to defeat Colac Imperials\u00a053-32 in the Division One Elimination Final.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
