SAMANTHA Young-Miller is known for her Nespresso coffee pod recycling campaign in Torquay, having placed a box at the end of her driveway for an after-hours recycling option.<\/p>\n
This small initiative has turned into a region-wide movement with multiple businesses requesting their own recycling box for Nespresso pods to reduce waste in the landfill.<\/p>\n
Along with coffee pod recycling, Samantha has now added donations to her community contribution.<\/p>\n
Over the past few weeks Samantha has collected items from her Mother\u2019s Group, friends and family to donate to Geelong Mums, a volunteer-powered organisation based in South Geelong that rehomes new and pre-loved baby goods and nursery equipment to families in need.<\/p>\n
Samantha said she was very thankful to the Surf Coast community for all their donations and helping fill her car to the brim with items.<\/p>\n
\u201cI got to meet the amazing operators and volunteers and was told how the amazing organisation works,\u201d<\/p>\n
Samantha said. \u201cAs I was being told the horrible stories of how women flee in the middle of night to save their children from domestic violence with only the clothes on their back, tears ran down my face realising how lucky I am.<\/p>\n
\u201cI couldn\u2019t imagine how scared and hopeless I would feel if that happened to me and my boys. What a sobering moment.<\/p>\n
\u201cSo, these beautiful people make sure they are ready for those moments and are on call 24-7 even if local police call needing their help in the middle of the night.<\/p>\n
\u201cThey helped over 4,000 children last year, so our communities really do need them.\u201d<\/p>\n
Samantha is encouraging other to dig deep and keep donating, specifically baby food, wipes and diapers.<\/p>\n
