MEMBERS of the Lorne Bowls Club, members of the Lorne community and tourists can now enjoy night bowls through a $20,000 federal government grant.<\/p>\n
Corangamite federal member Sarah Henderson visited the club earlier this month to switch on the lights, funded by round two of the Stronger Communities Program, for the first time.<\/p>\n
\u201cThe lights will encourage greater community participation and lead to an improvement in community vibrancy,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n
\u201cThe project included the installation of eight light towers to provide LED lighting to the bowling green.<\/p>\n
\u201cNight bowling will also provide an additional activity for conference participants, corporate functions and social bowls.\u201d<\/p>\n
Across Corangamite, 28 projects have been funded under rounds one and two of the Stronger Communities Program.<\/p>\n
These include $18,000 to the Lorne CFA for the purchase of a new command vehicle, $10,000 to assist the Torquay Marine Rescue Service purchase a rescue jet ski and $10,000 to the Ocean Grove and District Men\u2019s Shed for a shed upgrade.<\/p>\n
Ms Henderson said round three of the Stronger Communities program recently closed, with applications now being considered by the Department of Industry.<\/p>\n
