SURF Coast Football Club\u2019s Senior Men\u2019s team are still on the hunt for promotion thanks to a dramatic 1-0 win over league leaders Altona North.<\/p>\n
With only two games left in the season, Surf Coast FC are now just one point behind Altona but with a superior goal difference.<\/p>\n
Surf Coast Captain Tom Langman said it was a difficult win, but a much needed one.<\/p>\n
\u201cThat keeps our season well and truly alive,\u201d Langman said.<\/p>\n
\u201cIt was a terrific battle for the full 90 minutes. There were not a lot of clear-cut chances from either side, as you would expect in a first versus second contest and a lot on the line.\u201d<\/p>\n
Matt Linney ensured Surf Coast FC maintained their impressive record of scoring in every game this season, netting his 13th of the year in the eleventh minute.<\/p>\n
Surf Coast FC seemed to have the win secured when in the second minute of stoppage time Altona were awarded a penalty.<\/p>\n
Goalkeeper Thomas Dunn conceded the penalty, but made amends by saving the spot-kick and keeping his team\u2019s promotion hopes alive.<\/p>\n
Langman said the penalty save capped off a brilliant performance from Dunn.<\/p>\n
\u201cFrom our point of view, we got Tommy Dunn to thank for taking all three points. He had a brilliant game in goal, but saving that 92nd minute penalty was just amazing.\u201d<\/p>\n
Surf Coast FC\u2019s senior women are also battling for promotion but their 4-2 loss to North Geelong Warriors SC on the weekend puts them in a precarious position.<\/p>\n
They still sit atop of the table, North Geelong now have the same amount of points of them and a game in hand.<\/p>\n
Their final fixture is against Barwon SC before they have a bye in the final round.<\/p>\n
Meanwhile, the men\u2019s remaining two fixtures see them play Melbourne University Soccer Club at home, before finishing the season with an away game to Gisborne SC.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
