PORTARLINGTON Golf Club\u2019s John Bowman was quoted as saying \u201cThat was the best Carnival of Golf ever\u201d, after the resounding success of the Club\u2019s signature week of golf at Portarlington.
\nMr Bowman\u2019s comments come after the week welcomed almost 1000 golfers from across Australia to a superbly presented course and exceptional clubhouse catering.
\n\u201cThe fact that the weather held out for the entire week, apart from the very last hour was an absolute bonus,\u201d Mr Bowman, Tournament Chair, said.
\nJulie Flintoff from Curlewis won the Wettenhall\u2019s Bellarine Women\u2019s Open Championship on the Tuesday and then went to take the win in the Tabcorp Women\u2019s Ambrose Pairs with Curlewis Partner Jill Pring on the Friday.
\nMax Edmanson from Portarlington was also on the podium twice during the week, winning the Four Person Ambrose Event with Phil Toyne, Joel Launer and Chris Otway, with an outstanding score of 53 that included three Birdies.
\nMax also won the Bellarine Times Men\u2019s Ambrose Pairs even with Cameron Place from Bendigo Bank on the final day of the Carnival.
\nChris Calthorpe, representing the Bellarine Times, narrowly missed an elusive hole-in-one on the 17th and ended up snagging a couple of bottles of Robert Oatley wine for the Nearest the Pin instead.
\nYvonne Casey from Portarlington staged a spectacular comeback from injury to win the Women\u2019s Single Stableford event on Thursday.
\nThe week\u2019s visitors didn\u2019t go home empty handed either, with Graeme Mathers from Barwon Heads winning the Bellarine Veteran\u2019s Classic from Graham Whittaker from Mount Derrimut.
\nNorthern Golf Club players Graeme Baker and Terry Evans won the PFD Men\u2019s 4BBB Stableford Event while Northern\u2019s Iswurlall Johty was victor in the Bendigo Bank Men\u2019s Single Stableford.
