LOCAL high schools have jumped on board to help the work of Feed Me Bellarine.
\n\u201cNo questions and no agendas\u201d is the concept behind the community driven food sharing program based in Ocean Grove that is feeding vulnerable families across the Bellarine.
\nFeed Me Bellarine is the brainchild of Lana Purcell, owner of Belly Bowls and Bellarine Catering, and chef Anthony Woodbury.
\nLana said things had been going along swimming since the initiative kicked-off just months ago, and that she was amazed by all the support they had received, as well as the need.
\nShe said Newcomb Secondary College reached out to help by offering to cook meals during their year 10 cooking program and had committed to a five-week program choosing simple meals to make for Feed Me Bellarine.
\n\u201cWe dropped some donated containers to them before their first cook and week one they made spaghetti and bolognaise sauce,\u201d Lana said.
\n\u201cWeek one we picked up 30 individual hot dinners and chef Anthony distributed them to the families who have become regular runs on our FMB map.\u201d
\nLana said what happened during week two was a little different.
\n\u201cThe wellbeing team at Bellarine Secondary College reached out to us about teens couch surfing and not always having dinner or a stable home life.
\n\u201cThese are kids trying to finish school\u2026 still fighting.
\n\u201cSo we picked up 30 amazing serves of rice and chilli and drove it straight to the other high school on the Bellarine.
\n\u201cIn essence, our kids are cooking for our kids.\u201d
\nLana said since then, another high school had made contact about two families in their community that needed help – no questions, no agendas.
\nShe said Anthony and herself had also continued working on restoring and getting a caravan up and running, with the help of some volunteers.
