BARWON Heads\u2019 treasured main jetty will undergo a $200,000 upgrade for boaters, fishers and pedestrians to enjoy.
\nMinister for Ports and Freight Melissa Horne joined Member for Bellarine Lisa Neville in Barwon Heads on Friday to announce the funding to improve the jetty.
\nMs Neville said the investment would mean major maintenance works could be carried out on the jetty \u2013 improving berthing for recreational boaters and access for anglers and pedestrians.
\nShe said the major maintenance works to the 60-year-old jetty would replace timber piles, whalers, decking, steel framing and handrails on the iconic structure.
\nThey will play a major role in invigorating the iconic jetty for years to come and revitalising the township to attract more visitors.
\nMs Neville said Barwon Heads\u2019 main jetty was a focal point for the Bellarine, used all year round by boaters, fishers, and tourists.
\n\u201cWe\u2019re repairing it so locals and visitors alike can enjoy it for decades to come,\u201d Ms Neville said.
\nThe Barwon Coast Committee of Management manages the jetty and 13 kilometres of coastal Crown land reserves, which also provides funding for the management of the natural and developed coastal environments.
\nThe $2 million Victorian Local ports funding package will deliver maintenance and other important upkeep work on key local port facilities, to ensure the community and tourists can continue to enjoy this iconic jetty.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
