{"id":27644,"date":"2019-09-19T03:00:09","date_gmt":"2019-09-18T17:00:09","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/timesnewsgroup.com.au\/bellarinetimes\/?p=27644"},"modified":"2019-09-17T15:31:46","modified_gmt":"2019-09-17T05:31:46","slug":"get-hooked-on-the-bellarine-this-spring","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/timesnewsgroup.com.au\/bellarinetimes\/news\/get-hooked-on-the-bellarine-this-spring\/","title":{"rendered":"Get hooked on the Bellarine this spring"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>RECREATIONAL fishers and seafood lovers can celebrate National Gone Fishing Day by joining festivities at Portarlington\u2019s \u2018Hooked on Bellarine\u2019 extravaganza next month.<br \/>\nMember for Bellarine Lisa Neville said the free family-friendly event showcased the Bellarine Peninsula as a seafood and fishing mecca.<br \/>\nHosted by the Victorian Fisheries Authority and supported by Bellarine Bayside Coastal Management, the event is funded by phase two of the State Government\u2019s $35 million Target One Million plan to get more people fishing, more often, in more places.<br \/>\nThere will be something for everyone, including free \u2018come and try\u2019 fishing clinics for kids and novices with tuition from experts.<br \/>\nRods, bait and tackle will be provided.<br \/>\n\u201cGone Fishing Day is a fantastic opportunity for people to get outdoors and active in the fresh air and enjoy quality time with family and friends,\u201d Ms Neville said.<br \/>\n\u201cThe free Hooked on Bellarine event has something for everyone, whether you\u2019re a beginner fisher who wants to learn the basics or a lover of delicious seafood on your dinner table.\u201d<br \/>\nStands selling freshly cooked seafood and locally made produce, including blue mussels that Portarlington is famous for will also be available.<br \/>\nFor those keen to understand more about what seafood is grown locally and across Victoria can drop into the aquaculture hub.<br \/>\nFishcare will run casting competitions and there will be an expert fishing panel with tips on catching more snapper, King George whiting and gummy sharks.<br \/>\nLive music will run throughout the day, including Shy with Dallas Holden and Simon Towers, local performers, and the popular children\u2019s group Mik Maks.<br \/>\nThe free event will run on Sunday October 20 at the Portarlington Safe Harbour Foreshore from 10am until 4pm.<br \/>\nFor more information visit vfa.vic.gov.au\/hookedonbellarine.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>RECREATIONAL fishers and seafood lovers can celebrate National Gone Fishing Day by joining festivities at Portarlington\u2019s \u2018Hooked on Bellarine\u2019 extravaganza next month.
