THE Borough of Queenscliffe is making the Bellarine Rail Trail safer for cyclists and joggers, with upgrade works on Bridge Street now under way.
\nMayor Bob Merriman joined workers on site recently to help with asphalting works.
\n\u201cThis section of the rail trail has always been a challenge for cyclists, local residents and visitors to navigate,\u201d Cr Merriman said.
\n\u201cBy building a proper crossing and a better shared pathway on the site, these works will make it easier for everyone to enjoy the rail trail.\u201d
\nThe construction of a shared pathway and resurfacing of surrounding roads will provide a safer connection for users accessing the rail trail at its Queenscliff terminus, as well as complementing the new wharf currently under construction.
\nLocal residents will also benefit from asphalting works to improve parking arrangements along Bridge Street.
\nCouncil has worked collaboratively with residents living near the site to achieve an outcome that suits everybody.
\nCr Merriman thanked local residents on Bridge Street for their help designing the project. \u201cBridge Street residents have been extremely helpful in getting the design of this project right,\u201d Cr Merriman said.
\n\u201cThank you to all our local residents who have worked with us and for your patience as we complete this upgrade.\u201d
\nWorks are expected to be completed in the coming weeks, and were funded with assistance from the Victorian Government\u2019s Fixing Country Roads program.
\nThe Borough of Queenscliffe has also used this program to complete upgrades to parking and safety in Bowen Road in Point Lonsdale, drainage improvements to Ocean Road in Point Lonsdale, and design bike safety upgrades on Murray Road in Queenscliff.
