ST Leonards Primary School students enjoyed a busy day last week learning about how they can be sustainable at home and in the community.
\nA group of six students in year 5\/6 asked earlier in the year to make an enviro leadership group.
\nThese students along with Zoologist Kate McCabe and teacher Samuel Nicolson planned activities for the day.
\nThe activities included making bee hotels out of straws, string and cardboard, and making a sustainability message with pizza boxes and learning how to categorise rubbish into what can be recycled.
\nMr Nicholson said students also presented habitats and bins that they had been working on throughout the term.
\n\u201cThe bins were designed to make people want to put rubbish into a bin because it is fun,\u201d he said.
\n\u201cThere were some exciting designs such as a bird box, monster, unicorn and even a Shrek bin.
\n\u201cThe students voted and the winners will present their bin to the St Leonards Beautification Committee.\u201d
\nMr Nicholson said it was a very successful day and a great opportunity for students to have a voice and showcase their work.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
