THE awards keep rolling in for one of Ocean Grove\u2019s most loved bakeries.
\nRolling Pin Pies and Cakes recently won 14 gold medals at The Official Great Aussie Pie Competition 2019, plus two silver medals and two bronze.
\nRolling Pin won more gold medals than any other bakery in the country.
\nApprentice Caitlin Houston also took out the title of Australia\u2019s Best Plain Pie made by an apprentice, which general manager Nathan Williams said was an amazing result.
\nMr Williams said while Caitlin, who is a third-year apprentice, had helped create pies for previous competitions, this was the first time she had made and entered one from scratch.
\n\u201cI\u2019ve helped out in the last few and done bits and pieces, but I haven\u2019t done every process and step, which is what I did this time, so it was good to get more involved,\u201d Ms Houston said.
\n\u201cI created a chunky beef, so similar to our jumbo chunky we make in here.
\n\u201cThe competition was for a plain pie, so I couldn\u2019t go crazy with the flavours.\u201d
\nMr Williams said Ms Houston had an eye for detail and was good at looking at something to see if it worked or didn\u2019t, as competition pies had to be perfect.
\nHe said he drove all Rolling Pins\u2019 pies up to Sydney overnight in the lead up to the competition, which proved a mission in itself.
\n\u201cFourteen gold is an amazing result and we are really excited.
\n\u201cIt\u2019s certainly the highest amount of gold we\u2019ve won in a competition and the highest number of any bakery in the competition.\u201d
\nHe said 16 judges looked at more than 1,500 pies from hundreds of bakeries across Australia during the four-day competition, and that their Jumbo Chunky Beef pie was judged second in the country.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
