THE Torquay RSL will hold a forum at the Torquay Bowls Club later this month to provide veterans and first responders with valuable information on health and aged care.<\/p>\n
Torquay RSL president Bob Tyler said the event was the first time the organisation had looked to unite veterans and first responders.<\/p>\n
“Emergency service members including Police, Ambulance, SES and CFA have not had any local centre where their needs physically and mentally can be addressed.<\/p>\n
“This expo, supported by DVA (Department of Veterans’ Affairs), is our first attempt at bringing together those who may have suffered ill effects from traumatic events experienced during their service.”<\/p>\n
The event includes information from a doctor, allied health professionals, and welfare and aged care advisors.<\/p>\n
After presentations, attendees will have the chance to talk to various service providers on the different forms of help they provide.<\/p>\n
It will also include a free morning tea and lunch.<\/p>\n
Mr Tyler said the event provides a great chance for people to learn more about the options available to them.<\/p>\n
“We see this as an opportunity to help locals who may not know or understand what support is available for them or their families.<\/p>\n
“The expo and forum is part of Veterans’ Health Week and is an opportunity for former and serving Australian Defence Force personnel, their families and carers to improve the health and wellbeing of themselves and their friends.”<\/p>\n
The event will be held on October 31 from 10.30am to 1.30pm.<\/p>\n
