THE Bellarine Peninsula will field a new team in AFL Barwon’s Under 18 Female competition next year.<\/p>\n

\n

The Peninsula Sharks will combine players from Drysdale, Ocean Grove, Queenscliff, and Portarlington.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

\n

There was previously no option for players after Under 15 football other than going straight into the seniors. The Peninsula Sharks will bridge this gap.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

Speaking to AFL Barwon, Drysdale female football co-ordinator Jennie Deckker said this side would help keep players involved.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

\n

“We regularly see participation numbers in this age group drop off considerably and we believe this team is a way of addressing that and keeping girls involved in the game they love.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

\n

“It’s such an exciting and unique initiative.”<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

The Peninsula Sharks will begin training at Memorial Oval in Ocean Grove. Home games will be shared between the four founding clubs.<\/div>\n
