Active Geelong launched its new website on Monday in a bold move aimed at making its namesake Australia\u2019s most active city. <\/p>\n

The new website will see local businesses \u2013 including Torquay-based marketing agency Fluid \u2013 better able to join the \u201cmovement movement\u201d via an online sign-up registration. <\/p>\n

It will also offer a raft of physical activity resources and tips to inspire workplace employees to achieve their \u201cdaily dose\u201d of exercise throughout the day and once they\u2019re off the clock. <\/p>\n

Active Geelong chair Doctor Hugh Seward said the organisation hoped to be recognised as one of the country\u2019s leaders in active and healthy communities, with the website a key part of making this objective possible. <\/p>\n

\u201cWe are really excited to be launching the new website, it will make joining the \u2018movement movement\u2019 even easier, as well as giving our \u2018Movement Champions\u2019 great new resources to help promote being active.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe plan to continue building on the website, with lots of exciting new developments planned as the movement continues to grow.\u201d<\/p>\n

He said through Active Geelong\u2019s collaborative approach with local workplaces, health professionals and community members, the organisation was working towards transitioning Geelong into Australia\u2019s most active city by 2029. <\/p>\n

Ambassadors who have endorsed the mission include Fluid co-founder Mike Beck. The Torquay local and father of three decided to join the Active Geelong board in light of his Type 2 diabetes diagnosis. <\/p>\n

He said signing on was an \u201ceasy\u201d decision as it was a good cause he believed in wholeheartedly. <\/p>\n

\u201cI think there\u2019s a lot of benefits out of exercise, but I think one of the biggest benefits for me has been mental health.\u201d<\/p>\n

Mr Beck \u2013 who has taken up swimming as a means to exercise \u2013 said more organisations should consider being part of the program, as offering employees flexibility in the workplace was important. <\/p>\n

Active Geelong will co-host a Geelong Chamber of Commerce \u201cAfter 5\u201d networking event in conjunction with Clever and Creative Geelong tonight (Thursday, October 17) at the Ocean Grove Surf Life Saving Club (The Dunes, Ocean Grove).<\/p>\n
