A COMMUNITY benefit concert for refugees in Queenscliff this weekend will feature performances by some talented musicians.
\nSinger\/songwriter Rose Bygrave with Lucy Jones and Deb Elea, and special guest Sarah Carroll will perform at Queenscliff Uniting Church this Saturday November 2.
\nEarlier this year the Bellarine community came together to watch Julian Burnside\u2019s documentary film, \u2018Border Politics\u2019 which the Borough of Queenscliffe screened during Refugee Week.
\nRose Bygrave attended the screening and spoke afterwards with Sue Longmore from Queenscliff Rural Australians for Refugees.
\n\u201cI offered to help in any way I can,\u201d Rose said.
\n\u201cI decided to gather together some musician friends to hold a benefit concert for refugees.
\n\u201cIt\u2019s an opportunity for the community to come together for an evening in solidarity with this humanitarian cause.\u201d
\nRose has been playing music all her life; professionally for over 40 years beginning in the acclaimed Goanna Band.
\nShe is renowned for compassionate songwriting – reflecting on the land, place and love, and especially on issues of indigenous and social justice.
\nThis year she released a new CD, The Yabby Catcher\u2026 the CD closest to her heart.
\nSarah Carroll has performed at many of Australia\u2019s high-profile festivals and a good many of its pubs over a 30-year career.
\nHer songs chime with sincerity and come straight from her big, brave heart.
\nThe concert is presented by Queenscliff Rural Australians for Refugees, with support from Queenscliff Uniting Church.
\nSupper will be provided, and a bar will be available.
\nTickets can be booked online trybooking.com\/BFRZB or through cash sales at the door. Funds raised will go to Queenscliff RAR\u2019s Refugee Support Project.
\nThe concert is at the Queenscliff Uniting Church, Hesse St, Queenscliff on Saturday November 2 at 7.30pm.
