POSTERS created by Queenscliff and Ocean Grove students have triumphed in Barwon Water\u2019s annual National Water Week competition, following a record number of entries.
\nMore than 1,000 students from 22 local schools created posters inspired by this year\u2019s National Water Week theme, \u201cIt\u2019s time to change the world\u201d.
\nThe theme was linked to the United Nation\u2019s Sustainability Goal 6, which calls for a world where everyone has access to safe and clean water.
\nPrep Oli Kent from Queenscliff Primary School, Grade 5\/6 student Isobel Wrochna from St Aloysius Primary School in Queenscliff and Grade two student Amelie Flynn from Our Lady Star of the Sea in Ocean Grove were three winners from the Bellarine.
\nBarwon Water education officer Fernando Garcia said the theme resonated strongly with students, who recognised they enjoyed a safe and secure water supply when many of their contemporaries around the world do not.
\n\u201cWe had 1,023 entries overall, which is a record for our National Water Week poster competition,\u201d Mr Garcia said.
\n\u201cCongratulations to all participating students and schools.\u201d
\nStudents who finished in the top three of each of the four divisions received an individual prize pack and four randomly drawn schools received a $500 sustainability grant each, this included Whittington Primary School.
\nThe sustainability grant will enable schools to invest in water saving initiatives.
\nThe artwork of the winners and runners-up in each category was on display at the Geelong Show\u2019s Barwon Water pavilion.
\nThey will also be displayed at the Colac Show in early November.
