{"id":28740,"date":"2019-11-07T00:00:06","date_gmt":"2019-11-06T14:00:06","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/timesnewsgroup.com.au\/bellarinetimes\/?p=28740"},"modified":"2019-11-05T15:37:02","modified_gmt":"2019-11-05T05:37:02","slug":"baking-for-a-cause","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/timesnewsgroup.com.au\/bellarinetimes\/living\/baking-for-a-cause\/","title":{"rendered":"Baking for a cause"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>Keen cooks are invited to put their baking skills to the test this month and whisk their way into fundraising for parents who suffer from perinatal depression and anxiety. <\/strong><\/p>\n<p>With Perinatal Mental Health Week taking place from November 10-16, Gidget Foundation Australia \u2013 a not-for-profit service that supports expectant and new parents \u2013 is encouraging people to host their own \u201cBun In The Oven\u201d fundraising event. <\/p>\n<p>Whether it\u2019s a casual brunch at home or morning tea in the office, the initiative aims to start the conversation and break down barriers that may be preventing people from seeking help. <\/p>\n<p>Torquay mum and Bun In The Oven host Lisa Dowding said she was inspired to get involved because of her individual struggle with the condition. <\/p>\n<p>\u201cHaving been on my own journey with perinatal depression and anxiety (PNDA), and very much still focused on managing my mental health on a day to day basis, I wanted to do something positive and help fundraise for other families who are experiencing PNDA.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe Gidget Foundation\u2019s vital support to expectant and new families is really making a difference. Everyone should get on board.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>According to Gidget Foundation Australia, one in six parents will experience perinatal depression and anxiety \u2013 affecting about 100,000 Australians a year. <\/p>\n<p>Funds raised from the Bun In The Oven initiative will be put towards education, awareness and support programs for expectant and new parents, as well as services for those experiencing perinatal depression and anxiety. <\/p>\n<p>Gidget Foundation Australia chief executive officer Arabella Gibson said Bun In The Oven was one of the most important fundraiser events on the charity\u2019s calendar. <\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt\u2019s fun and easy for everyone to get on board and put a bun in the oven. This is a fantastic way to raise awareness and get people to start talking about perinatal mental health.
