THE day selected for Indented Head Yacht Club\u2019s opening of the season was not the best day for sailing.
\nThe forecast was not good and both Royal Geelong and Port Melbourne Yacht Clubs called their sailing off on Friday night in view of gale warnings put out for Saturday.
\nBut Indented Head members are tougher than that and some members brought boats \u2013 just in case.
\nYounger sailors participating in the regular Saturday morning Learn2Sail program were in no doubt – they were going to sail. They had two Lasers 4.7, four Optimists and the Quest on the water in the morning, and they all seemed to have a ball.
\nAfter lunch it was a different day weather-wise and the duty race officer wisely decided to abandon any further sailing.
\nMembers then headed into the Community Hall to officially open the season.
\nCommodore John Walter welcomed all and especially Corangamite federal member Libby Coker, Gary Crole (Chaplain at Christian College) and representatives from other Yacht Clubs and the community.
\nThose present at the Opening Ceremony firstly heard from committee members Chris Green, who (along with a sub-committee) has surveyed all members and developed a strategic plan for the future of the Indented Head Yacht Club.
\nThe plan\u2019s main focus is that if the club is to survive, members must adapt and change.
\nCommodore John Walter then introduced Ms Coker, who officially opened the sailing season and spoke about her time as a young child sailing Sabot dinghys with her dad at Black Rock Yacht Club.
\nChaplin Gary Crole gave his thoughts, a couple of jokes and best wishes on the beginning of the season when he \u2018blessed the fleet\u2019.
\nMany junior sailors stayed on from the morning training session to witness the official opening, but had a lot more fun digging the biggest fort ever seen on Indented Head beach.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
