UP TO 10,000 cubic metres of sand is set to be transported to Apollo Bay and Marengo to help stabilise their coastal foreshores.<\/p>\n

\n

This serves to counteract the naturally occurring erosion in the area that is caused by storms, waves and wind.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

\n

This is the second round of sand to be transferred to Apollo Bay and Marengo.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

\n

Otway Coast Committee spokesperson Anthony Alfirenko said the sand will be placed strategically to ensure the best outcomes.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

\n

\u201cSand is being placed at locations where community infrastructure and assets have been identified as most at risk to coastal hazards and erosion.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

\n

The works are expected to cost $400,000, with the funds coming from the state government\u2019s Coastal Environments Program.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

\n

While the works take place, spotters will be on site to ensure the safety of locals and any fauna, including hooded plovers.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

\n

Department of Environment, Land, Water and Planning Barwon South West regional manager Greg Leece asked people to be safe while the works are taking place.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

\u201cResidents and visitors are urged to take care and observe warning signs during the works as there will be trucks moving up and down the beach.\u201d<\/div>\n
