A CHARITY organisation is asking people to help women who are experiencing homelessness, sleeping rough, or seeking refuge in domestic violence shelters.<\/p>\n

\n

Share the Dignity launched their 2019 It’s in the Bag Christmas Appeal last week.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

\n

The appeal asks people to take simple actions like donating handbags that are in decent condition, filled with items that will help the day-to-day life of women who experiencing homelessness, domestic violence or period poverty.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

\n

Items can include essentials such as pads and tampons, roll on deodorant, toothbrush, toothpaste, shampoo and conditioner and soap as well as more special items. People are also welcome to leave a thoughtful note in the bags.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

\n

All bags can be dropped off at any Bunnings store.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

\n

Share the Dignity volunteer Fiona Threlfall said showing care during this time of the year is particularly important.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

\n

“We want to give local women and girls doing it tough over the holiday period a reason to smile and feel cared for, as well as restoring some of their dignity by providing them with handbags filled with essential hygiene products, as well as a few extra little treats.”<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

\n

Domestic and family violence is the leading cause of homelessness for women in Australia.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

\n

Each year, one in 42 women aged 15-24 will use a specialist homelessness service.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

\n

This is the fifth year the charity has run their Christmas campaign.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n
