{"id":29203,"date":"2019-12-05T07:00:39","date_gmt":"2019-12-04T21:00:39","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/timesnewsgroup.com.au\/bellarinetimes\/?p=29203"},"modified":"2019-12-05T07:00:39","modified_gmt":"2019-12-04T21:00:39","slug":"grants-seek-to-bring-inclusivity-through-sport","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/timesnewsgroup.com.au\/bellarinetimes\/news\/grants-seek-to-bring-inclusivity-through-sport\/","title":{"rendered":"Grants seek to bring inclusivity through sport"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>THE federal government has dedicated $19.6 million to grants improving social inclusion in sports and other physical activities.<\/p>\n<div>The Driving Social Inclusion through Sport and Physical Activity grants will be open to not-for-profit organisations, including sports clubs, local community groups and local government entities.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div>Victorian Senator Sarah Henderson said the grants would benefit people socially in addition to improving their physical health.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div>&#8220;Playing sport is a great way to be a part of the community so it&#8217;s important we provide a helping hand for people to get involved, particularly people with disabilities, new migrants and indigenous people.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div>&#8220;We want everyone to feel welcome to join in at our local sporting clubs because sport is a big part of our way of life in Victoria.&#8221;<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div>The grant is also part of the federal government&#8217;s Sport 2030 National Sport Plan.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div>This plan states that it aims to have every Australian &#8220;able to undertake the exercise they need and want in a safe, fun and inclusive way&#8221;.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div>Minister for Immigration, Citizenship, Migrant Services and Multicultural Affairs David Coleman said sport was key to integrating people into their communities.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div>&#8220;Sport plays an important role in the lives of so many Australians and is a great way for migrants to build connections, improve their English language skills and feel more at home.&#8221;<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div>The grants are open until December 12.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div>Groups can apply for the grants by heading to <a href=\"http:\/\/grants.gov.au\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">grants.gov.au<\/a>.<\/div>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>THE federal government has dedicated $19.6 million to grants improving social inclusion in sports and other physical activities.
