BEACHGOERS will benefit from safer access to the sand this summer after the Borough of Queenscliffe commenced remediation works at Springs Beach.<\/p>\n

Persistent tidal surges have caused sand to wash away at the foot of the access stairs south of the skate park, often creating a significant drop to the beach.<\/p>\n

Borough chief executive officer Martin Gill said the installation of an extension to the concrete stairwell will allow people of all ages, to reach the shore comfortably at any time.<\/p>\n

\u201cIn preparation for the popular holiday season, everyone young and old deserves the opportunity to experience our famous beaches,\u201d Mr Gill said.<\/p>\n

\u201cSo, we\u2019re thrilled to be able to make that process a little bit easier.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe encourage all residents and visitors to make the most of what Queenscliff and Point Lonsdale has to offer this summer.\u201d<\/p>\n

The borough<\/a> has taken measures to stabilise the coastline by using an excavator to reposition rocks that had moved out of place, preventing the rock wall from collapsing during extreme weather.<\/p>\n

New rocks have also been added further along the beach, with any existing gaps plugged to secure the wall for seasons to come.<\/p>\n

Resurfacing works on sections of the promenade\u2019s bitumen will coincide with the beach upgrades.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
