{"id":29347,"date":"2019-12-12T00:00:03","date_gmt":"2019-12-11T14:00:03","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/timesnewsgroup.com.au\/bellarinetimes\/?p=29347"},"modified":"2019-12-12T00:00:03","modified_gmt":"2019-12-11T14:00:03","slug":"rgyc-needs-volunteers-so-it-can-set-sail-in-2020","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/timesnewsgroup.com.au\/bellarinetimes\/news\/rgyc-needs-volunteers-so-it-can-set-sail-in-2020\/","title":{"rendered":"RGYC needs volunteers so it can set sail in 2020"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>THE Royal Geelong Yacht Club is on the lookout for volunteers ahead of its \u201cSummer of Sailing\u201d program which will see renowned sailors touch down in Geelong before the Tokyo Olympics.<\/p>\n<p>About 500 volunteers are needed to support next year\u2019s series of sailing events, with the RGYC hosting four world championships as part of the program.<\/p>\n<p>More than 200 volunteers assist the club each year, but additional hands are required as the club welcomes the 49er, 49er FX and Nacra 17 World Championships from February 8-15 and the Laser Masters World Championships from March 19-28.<\/p>\n<p>The summer sailing season is projected to deliver a $23 million boost to the local economy, and many teams are expected to train in Geelong before journeying to Japan.<\/p>\n<p>RGYC commodore John Kint said he encouraged even non-boating enthusiasts to get involved.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cHaving world class, Olympic sailors competing on our doorstep creates a unique opportunity for more of the public to be a part of the action, both on and off the water.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIf you are interested in being part of a world class sailing event, meet new people, give back to your community and learn new skills, we would love to hear from you.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Volunteers will assist in areas including race management, crew on racecourse boats, marshalling competitors, registration and hospitality.<\/p>\n<p>To sign up, head to <a href=\"http:\/\/rgyc.com.au\/volunteers\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">rgyc.com.au\/volunteers<\/a> or contact the club on 5229 3705.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>THE Royal Geelong Yacht Club is on the lookout for volunteers ahead of its \u201cSummer of Sailing\u201d program which will see renowned sailors touch down in Geelong before the Tokyo Olympics.
