SURF Coast Secondary College\u2019s vice-principal Erin Wright will become acting principal in the first term of 2020.<\/p>\n

\n

This comes as principal Scott Diamond leaves the school after eight years in the role.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

\n

Ms Wright has been with the school since it was founded and is eager to build on the positive environment the school has created for teachers and students alike.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

\n

\u201cThe main thing is that we have such happy kids here. I see one of the greatest responsibilities that we have as the growth of happy, resilient young people, and I\u2019m very happy with that culture.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

\n

\u201cOur staff work in really strong teams across the school and the result of that has been that this year we\u2019ve had some of the strongest data sets indicating our student achievement is strong and improving.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

\"\"<\/p>\n

\n

Mr Diamond said Ms Wright has played a significant role in shaping the school\u2019s culture.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

\n

\u201cShe\u2019s been just a huge, huge driver in the success that we have at our school. She\u2019s a highly intelligent and motivated school professional and she has an amazing sense of justice for the young people that she works with.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

\n

\u201cShe\u2019s going to do an amazing job as the acting principal to start with and whatever else comes after that.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

\n

Much like Mr Diamond, Ms Wright places a great importance on giving the students agency over their learning.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

\n

She said this was one of the main things she was looking to continue.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

\u201cThat\u2019s a really strong passion of mine. I\u2019m actually starting a student voice cluster with some local primary schools next year so we can expand that and maybe some of our students can teach some of the younger students that will come here about how they can positively participate in their student community and the wider community.<\/div>\n
<\/div>\n
\n

\u201cWe need to know as much as we can about every student and the individual student, not just groups of students, so that we are best placed to support every student in their development.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

Ms Wright said that while it was nice to see the school perform well statistically, they looked to \u201ccelebrate individuals\u201d rather than numbers.<\/div>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
