FOR the fifth consecutive year, Ocean Grove and Point Lonsdale surf life saving clubs invited members to enjoy a variety of activities and guest speakers during their annual Pink Zinc Patrol, January 4.<\/p>\n

Pink Zinc Patrol co-ordinator Simone White from Ocean Grove Surf Lifesaving Club said the day celebrated the achievements of women in surf lifesaving, and promoted female leadership within the surf lifesaving community.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe had over 50 people attend, about 30 stayed for the patrol of Ocean Grove beach. Geelong mayor Stephanie Asher stepped in as a guest speaker for Lisa Neville, who had to attend the fires instead,\u201d Ms White said.<\/p>\n

\u201cAll of the speakers gave great presentations and numbers for the event are growing year on year. Life Saving Victoria (LSV) also released merchandise so all clubs are able to hold a Pink Zinc Patrol event.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe weren\u2019t the first to do pink zinc but certainly because ours has been going for five years with two clubs combining, we\u2019ve been instrumental in LSV jumping on board.\u201d<\/p>\n

\"\"<\/p>\n

Ms White said hardly anyone was at the beach due to strong winds and rough conditions, but despite the temperamental weather, the day itself was successful.<\/p>\n

\u201cConditions were terrible, strong winds forced other beaches to close along the coast, but everyone still had a great time and it was a successful event,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe\u2019re looking forward to next year, hopefully it will be at the brand new Point Lonsdale Surf Life Saving Club.\u201d<\/p>\n
