Air quality concerns have forced the closure of a number of public attractions in Geelong as the smoke haze from the Gippsland fires continues to blanket the region.<\/p>\n

In a statement this morning, officials from the COGG said due to air quality advice and hazardous readings from Environment Protection Authority Victoria, the council had temporarily closed the following pools and beach:<\/p>\n

\u2022 Kardinia Aquatic Centre
\n\u2022 Lara Aquatic Centre
\n\u2022 Eastern Beach and children\u2019s pool<\/p>\n

\u201cFor the safety of our lifeguards, who are required to spend significant periods of time outside, there will be no patrols at outdoor pools or Eastern Beach,\u201d the statement said.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe advise against swimming at Eastern Beach until air quality improves and lifeguard patrols resume.\u201d<\/p>\n

EPA Victoria has advised people to stay indoors where possible and keep windows and doors shut, switch air-conditioners to \u2018recirculate\u2019, cease unnecessary outdoor activities and keep pets indoors. Anyone experiencing any health issues or breathing difficulties should seek medical assistance.<\/p>\n
