ENTRIES are open and filling up fast for the fifth annual 13th Beach Health Services Barwon Heads Triathlon on February 16.<\/p>\n

Event organiser Lincoln Beckworth said it\u2019s the perfect distance for all levels of competitors.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe Triathlon comprises of a 400m swim, 14km cycle and finishes with a 4km run. It\u2019s the perfect distance to entice all levels of competitors.<\/p>\n

\u201cLast year the event attracted over 750 competitors, 301 of those were doing their first ever triathlon, which was awesome!<\/p>\n

\u201cIt\u2019s what the event is all about, having a go, challenging yourself, and having fun. We\u2019ve also had top Victorian age group triathletes battling it out over the fast, scenic course.\u201d<\/p>\n

The swimming segment occurs in the Barwon River and is one of the \u201cbest swims\u201d a competitor will experience according to Mr Beckworth.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt\u2019s one of the best triathlon swims you can do because it\u2019s usually calm, protected waters, and it is also assisted by the current. This makes the swim a lot easier for those who aren\u2019t confident swimmers.\u201d<\/p>\n

The 14km cycle leg is out on the scenic 13th Beach road to the windmill and back, whilst the 4km run heads out along the trail path towards Ocean Grove and back.<\/p>\n

This year there is over $5,000 worth of prizes up for grabs.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt\u2019s great to have the support from the local businesses who sponsor the event, their generous contributions make the event possible, and so much fun,\u201d Mr Beckworth said.<\/p>\n

This year the event charity partner is Cottage by the Sea, who will be present at the event on the day.<\/p>\n

People can enter as an individual, or if unable to do all three legs of the triathlon on their own, they can enter as part of a team and enjoy the event with friends or family.<\/p>\n
