His father was Queenscliffe mayor and Cr Mason himself was raised and schooled in the area.<\/p>\n<p>Cr Mason says, to him, Wreck2Reef is a celebration of the community he is so closely tied to.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI enjoy the community, the spirit that\u2019s involved in it, and all the different age groups and everyone gets involved. I think it\u2019s a great event.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The event is organised and run largely through Indented Head Yacht Club volunteers.<\/p>\n<p>Cr Mason said he is he is grateful to those who give their time to ensure the event goes ahead.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThese things just don\u2019t happen on their own. All these different venues that provide outlets for people to exercise and develop community spirit are worth supporting.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The calm waters around Indented Head makes the race accessible to people of a variety of skills.<\/p>\n<p>Cr Mason himself said he is not anticipating breaking any records.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI don\u2019t necessarily like to think as far as I\u2019m concerned as a race because I\u2019m sort of a tail-ender more than a front-ender.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI\u2019m looking forward and I hope I won\u2019t be breathless when I finish.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The race will take place on February 8.<\/p>\n<p>To register or find out more about the event, head to <a href=\"http:\/\/wreck2reef.com.au\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener noreferrer\">wreck2reef.com.au<\/a>.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>AMONG the hundreds set to be involved in the 2020 Wreck2Reef will be the City of Greater Geelong Bellarine Ward councillor Jim Mason.
