NOVICE, experienced and celebrity golfers will tee up at The Sands Golf Club next month to fundraise for the LifeChanger Foundation program at Torquay College.<\/p>\n
The foundation, founded by former Australian rules football player and coach Scott Watters, delivers self-development workshops for teens in the hope of sustaining safe and resilient communities.<\/p>\n
According to the foundation’s 2018 information booklet, one in four teenagers experience mental health issues.<\/p>\n
LifeChanger was established to help support Australia’s youth before they become a statistic.<\/p>\n
Its vision is to build more resilient teenagers by:<\/p>\n
\u2022 Empowering teenagers through positive self-identity
\n\u2022 Identifying and developing inspiring community mentors
\n\u2022 Supporting and sustaining connected communities.<\/p>\n
Last year saw Torquay College students engage in the “Awaken the Hero” workshops over the course of six sessions, and its success has prompted sponsors ANZ and Yellow Brick Road Wealth Management to team up and organise the fundraiser.<\/p>\n
Grade 6 students were among those to take part, with the cohort learning skills and mechanisms to help make the transition to Year 7 an easier one.<\/p>\n
The 18-hole fundraiser will take place on Friday, February 21. Participants are invited to arrive at 7.30am for breakfast and a briefing before the 9am shotgun start.<\/p>\n
