{"id":30464,"date":"2020-02-27T00:22:01","date_gmt":"2020-02-26T14:22:01","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/timesnewsgroup.com.au\/bellarinetimes\/?p=30464"},"modified":"2020-02-27T08:51:36","modified_gmt":"2020-02-26T22:51:36","slug":"businesses-caring-for-our-bays","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/timesnewsgroup.com.au\/bellarinetimes\/news\/businesses-caring-for-our-bays\/","title":{"rendered":"Bay watch: businesses help care for the coast"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>A NEW program is making it easier for businesses to care for the Port Phillip and Corio Bays, empowering them to take an active role in reducing waste and caring for their environment.<\/p>\n<p>Businesses Caring For Our Bays (BCFOB) has been developed and delivered through a partnership with Caring for our Bays and Connected to Port Phillip, with assistance from Barwon South West Waste and Resource Recovery Group.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cRegistered businesses are endorsed, advertised and celebrated through the BCFOB website, social media and at events in order to promote their achievements and increase their environmental profile,\u201d Angie Poole, coastal program leader from Bellarine Catchment Network said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cOnce registered, the business will complete a self-assessment, work with an expert to discuss recommendations, start reducing waste and engaging with the community and receive recognition and promotion through the program.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The program encourages local businesses to reduce waste, care for their local environment, engage with customers and network among other local businesses.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cGeelong and Melbourne are bustling, busy cities that both share the beautiful shores of Port Phillip and Corio Bay,\u201d Ms Poole said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThese bays are a true gem and many volunteers, residents and tourists spend their time keeping these bays clean through the collection of litter, choosing to reuse and leaving only their footprints.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWith infinite opportunities to enjoy our bays through sport, educational activities, relaxation and recreation, many residents and visitors want to see it being protected by more than just the usual suspects.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>If you would like more information or are a business owner and would like to get started, register at <a href=\"http:\/\/businessescaringforourbays.com\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener noreferrer\">businessescaringforourbays.com<\/a>.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>A NEW program is making it easier for businesses to care for the Port Phillip and Corio Bays, empowering them to take an active role in reducing waste and caring for their environment.
