{"id":30587,"date":"2020-03-05T00:00:04","date_gmt":"2020-03-04T14:00:04","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/timesnewsgroup.com.au\/bellarinetimes\/?p=30587"},"modified":"2020-03-05T00:00:04","modified_gmt":"2020-03-04T14:00:04","slug":"pako-comes-alive-with-world-cultures","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/timesnewsgroup.com.au\/bellarinetimes\/news\/pako-comes-alive-with-world-cultures\/","title":{"rendered":"Pako comes alive with world cultures"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>THE traditions of Geelong\u2019s increasingly diverse multicultural community were paraded down Pakington Street on Saturday for the 38th annual Pako Festa.<\/p>\n<p>Every year since its inception, Diversitat has gathered together thousands of people from all walks of life for the biggest celebration of Geelong\u2019s dynamic population.<\/p>\n<p>Event director Luisa La Fornara said about 2,500 people participated in this year\u2019s parade, and a further 100,000 were in attendance on the day.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt was amazing. We were so lucky with the weather \u2013 it was just perfect. The audiences were amazing and the atmosphere electric. Every year is just magic.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWhat gets bigger (each year) is the number of people from each community. We\u2019ve got some amazing plans in place for our 40th birthday.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The City of Greater Geelong has supported the event for about 19 years, with the council contributing $100,000 to this year\u2019s festivities.<\/p>\n<p>This funding amount will be granted again in 2021 and 2022 as part of the city\u2019s three-year commitment through its Community Events Fund.<\/p>\n<div
