{"id":3085,"date":"2017-11-16T03:00:01","date_gmt":"2017-11-16T03:00:01","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/timesnewsgroup.com.au\/bellarinetimes\/?p=3085"},"modified":"2017-12-27T06:45:52","modified_gmt":"2017-12-27T06:45:52","slug":"sounds-of-surf-and-sky","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/timesnewsgroup.com.au\/bellarinetimes\/living\/sounds-of-surf-and-sky\/","title":{"rendered":"Sounds of Surf and Sky"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>Local Surf Coast nine-piece collective Lucy and the Night Sky is set to debut their album in three coming concerts this weekend<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Lucy and the Night Sky is a new Surf Coast band full of intriguing paradoxes and has embarked on a regional tour this month.<\/p>\n<p>The nine-piece collective is just a year old but its four male members have been playing together for 20 years as instrumental band Moonah and will arrive in Geelong this Saturday, followed by an Apollo Bay concert on Sunday and then grace the ears of Lorne on Monday, October 23.<\/p>\n<p>The fresh Night Sky sound fuses Lucy\u2019s decades of training in centuries-old classical piano with the musical naivety and free experimentations of her band members.<\/p>\n<p>Her song writing is influenced by centuries-old classical music and the relaxed vibes of beachside living.<\/p>\n<p>Her indie folk songs are magical and lush, yet gritty, and reflect both real-world struggles and dream-like realisations.<\/p>\n<p>The songs are deeply indebted to the topography and culture of the Surf Coast but are collected under a debut album entitled The Ocean Doesn\u2019t Want Me.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cFor a very long time now I\u2019ve been talking about doing something more with the songs that I write,\u201d Lucy said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI think that it must have been the birth of my third child and the recent death of a loved family member where I finally knew with every thread of my being that life is too short and unexpected to waste creative energy.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI feel so lucky that this very fun group of lovely men and women are not only happy to play my songs but make them sound even better.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Listeners can purchase The Ocean Doesn\u2019t Want Me at Torquay Books, the Birregurra General Store or online at lucyandthenightsky.bandcamp.com.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Local Surf Coast nine-piece collective Lucy and the Night Sky is set to debut their album in three coming concerts this weekend Lucy and the Night Sky is a new Surf Coast band full of intriguing paradoxes and has embarked on a regional tour this month.
