PLANNING is under way to protect a section of riverbank in Ocean Grove from the impacts of climate change, with Barwon Coast encouraging the community to have its say.
\nBarwon Coast begun planning for a new revetment and levee on the eastern bank of the Barwon River, in response to a new flood study conducted by the Corangamite Catchment Authority.
\nThe flood study identified this section of the Crown land foreshore reserve will be inundated by riverine flooding, storm surge and sea level rise into the future.
\nThis area includes the Riverview Family Caravan Park, a popular public shared trail adjacent to the river and public parking and recreation areas.
\nBarwon Coast are working with the Department of Environment Land Water and Planning (DELWP) to produce detailed designs for revetment and levee works, protecting the foreshore in the project area.
\nBarwon Coast chief executive officer Gary McPike said they\u2019re planning for the future protection of this important section.
\n\u201cThis is an important step in protecting the values that our community and visitors have identified in this section of coast.
\n\u201cPlanning for the protection of the Barwon Coast managed Riverview Family Caravan Park is an important step in ensuring the sustainability of Barwon Coast operations.
\n\u201cThis caravan park is an integral part of our management model, enabling us to provide services to the environment and the community of users on the Barwon Coast.\u201d
\nLocal input into the designs will be an integral part of this project according to Barwon Coast, who are seeking advice from the community on public access points and the aesthetics of the revetment and levee works.
\nThe community can have your say online, with planned drop in sessions likely to be postponed due to the coronavirus pandemic.
\nThe project covers only the design phase of the project, state government requires accurate costings before moving to the construction phase.
