TORQUAY Tigers Cricket Club recently confirmed several recruits ahead of the 2020\/21 season, including new coach-captain James Fisher.<\/p>\n
Fisher is a lively pace-bowler with plenty of experience in the Geelong Cricket Association, including twice being in Division 1 premiership winning teams for Grovedale.<\/p>\n
Fisher said he was delighted to be given the role having held the club in high regard for a long time.<\/p>\n
“I’ve been in contact with a few people at Torquay over a number of years and this year everything just fell into place.<\/p>\n
“It’s such a great club and a proud club, so it’s great to be on board.”<\/p>\n
The club has had four coaches in the past four years. In Fisher they are subsequently looking for someone to bring long-term success to the club.<\/p>\n
Fisher himself said his ambitions for the club stretched beyond a single season.<\/p>\n
“The way we’re looking at our recruiting at the moment shows that (we’re looking long-term). We want to recruit young people and people who are committed the cause.<\/p>\n
“And that’s not just about winning one premiership necessarily, we want to be winning club championships, so our focus is long-term, that’s for sure.”<\/p>\n
The clubs recruits include Fisher’s brother John, former Yorkshire Premier League player Ed Morrison, past St Josephs players Brandon Purcell, Cameron Port and Jackson Attwood, and former Aradale player Riley Wood.<\/p>\n
Fisher said he was delighted to have these players joining him at the club, and hopeful the club might still attract one or two further players.<\/p>\n
“I’m stoked to have every single one of them\u00a0on board.<\/p>\n
“Our bowling depth is going to be really good. Hopefully we can land another batter, which we’re working on at the moment, so I think it’s shaping up to be a really great squad.”<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
