THE Barwon Heads community can help inform a transport and parking strategy for the township.
\nThe City of Greater Geelong council is calling on residents, business owners and regular visitors to provide suggestions about key transport, parking, pedestrian issues or opportunities relating to council-managed roads at Barwon Heads.
\n\u201cWe\u2019re listening to the Barwon Heads community who have been very clear that they want clarity around local traffic and parking. We understand there are opportunities for improvements on council-managed roads and assets,\u201d Geelong mayor Stephanie Asher said.
\n\u201cThe scope for this first round of engagement is wide-ranging, so I encourage the community to participate and share feedback on specific areas important to you.\u201d
\nThe city said feedback would shape the Barwon Heads Transport and Parking Study, which aimed to promote sustainable transport, improve pedestrian and cycling accessibility, enhance safety and review parking conditions.
\nEngagement, which is now open, will run for six weeks, with the council open to feedback on topics including parking options including existing controls, access to and from school, seed limits, pedestrian and cycling networks including crossing points, congestion and delay in peak periods, road sealing treatment preferences.
\nThe Barwon Heads Transport and Parking Study is a response to community feedback collected during the process of amending the Barwon Heads Structure Plan, which was adopted by the council last year.
\nThe study focuses on local roads managed by council, and council will work with Regional Roads Victoria throughout the process. Feedback received on arterial roads including Bridge Road, Golf Links Road and Barwon Heads Road will be passed on.
\nThe council has advised that following this first round of engagement, options that address the key themes will be developed and released for further community feedback. A final report with findings and recommendations will be published later this year.
