I\u2019m obsessed with it at the moment, Brent (my partner) and I talk about it every day,\u201d Ms Byard said.<br \/>\n\u201cWe had four hours of uninterrupted sleep last night, that\u2019s a win for us, we thought \u2018Oh my gosh, this is unbelievable\u2019.\u201d<br \/>\nMelissa and her partner Brent welcomed son Clayton Williamson on March 11, and despite the challenges of Stage 3 restrictions and social isolation, are loving being new parents.<br \/>\n\u201cHaving a newborn is such a big adjustment, figuring out sleep patterns. When you have visitors all the time, as much as you love it, sometimes you might miss out on a bit more sleep,\u201d she said.<br \/>\n\u201cWith the lockdown we\u2019ve had more time with just us. We go for walks and get a coffee, or sometimes Clayton and I will sit in the car, while Brent goes in and gets groceries. Even if it\u2019s just walking around the backyard, we try and get fresh air every day.\u201d<br \/>\nMelissa said she\u2019s had to navigate challenges like breastfeeding without regular <a href=\"https:\/\/www.geelongaustralia.com.au\/mch\/article\/item\/8cdbda0bcc665a6.aspx\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener noreferrer\">Maternal Child Health<\/a> (MCH) appointments but has been able to access support via the phone.<br \/>\n\u201cI\u2019ve called the breastfeeding hotline when I\u2019ve needed a bit of reassurance, and the maternal health nurses have been great. They do phone consults, and if we\u2019re really concerned, we\u2019re able to go in and see them.<br \/>\n\u201cI\u2019m doing my first mother\u2019s group meeting on Zoom next week. The doctor said there\u2019s been an influx of new babies born in the region, so there\u2019s a few new mums in the same situation.\u201d<br \/>\nAnd while this Mother\u2019s Day might just be their immediate family of three, Melissa said she\u2019s looking forward to introducing Clayton to her extended family and friends in the future.<br \/>\n\u201cI have elderly grandparents that haven\u2019t been able to meet him yet, and friends that are dying to see meet him.
