{"id":3224,"date":"2017-11-22T03:38:31","date_gmt":"2017-11-22T03:38:31","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/timesnewsgroup.com.au\/bellarinetimes\/?p=3224"},"modified":"2017-12-27T07:50:19","modified_gmt":"2017-12-27T07:50:19","slug":"anglesea-riders-peddle-bigger-bike-park","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/timesnewsgroup.com.au\/bellarinetimes\/news\/anglesea-riders-peddle-bigger-bike-park\/","title":{"rendered":"Anglesea riders peddle bigger bike park"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>PROPONENTS of the Anglesea Bike Park are keen to see it expand, saying the project overseeing the future of the town\u2019s former mine could lead to it becoming bigger.<\/p>\n<p>Anglesea Futures is producing a land-use scenario for the mine and power station, which includes the bike park located on Alcoa freehold land.<\/p>\n<p>The land-use scenario discussion paper has the bike park in 19 hectares of land designated \u201cNorth of Wilkins Street\/Betleigh Street\u201d, also taking in the Anglesea Primary School and an office of the Department of Environment, Land, Water and Planning.<\/p>\n<p>Mike Bodsworth co-presented Anglesea Bike Park\u2019s vision for the Anglesea Futures project at a community forum in June.<\/p>\n<p>He described the bike park \u2013 which turned 10 in 2016 \u2013 last week as \u201cthe heart and soul of Anglesea&#8217;s vibrant mountain-biking scene\u201d, but said its future was not guaranteed.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAs yet, Alcoa\u2019s plans aren\u2019t clear, but what is clear is that their disposal of the \u2018Bike Park Block\u2019 offers a one-off opportunity to bring the land into public ownership as parkland, to deliver ongoing social and environmental benefits.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe can save the bike park and create around it a world class network of recreational trails on disturbed land vacated by Alcoa, fostering a happy and healthy community, reducing recreational pressure on more sensitive bushland and boosting the local economy.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>He encouraged locals and visitors to find out more and get involved by searching Anglesea Futures and Surfcoast Trail Group online, following Anglesea Bike Park on Facebook or emailing mikebods@yahoo.com.au.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>PROPONENTS of the Anglesea Bike Park are keen to see it expand, saying the project overseeing the future of the town\u2019s former mine could lead to it becoming bigger.
