{"id":3262,"date":"2017-11-22T05:41:54","date_gmt":"2017-11-22T05:41:54","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/timesnewsgroup.com.au\/bellarinetimes\/?p=3262"},"modified":"2017-12-27T07:50:17","modified_gmt":"2017-12-27T07:50:17","slug":"zahidas-kayak-creations-breathe-new-life","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/timesnewsgroup.com.au\/bellarinetimes\/living\/zahidas-kayak-creations-breathe-new-life\/","title":{"rendered":"Zahida\u2019s kayak creations breathe new life"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>Zahidah is exhibiting her watercolour work at the upcoming Bellarine Arts Trail on November 4 and 5.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The Syrian-born artist has moved a number of times in her life, and in this exhibition has gathered a range of sketches from her 17 years painting among the mangroves in Dubai.<\/p>\n<p>For this exhibition, she has organised them into a one-piece mosaic, each placed on a music stand gathered together as if an orchestra. The conductor\u2019s \u201cmusic book\u201d is a collection of Zahidah\u2019s work and contains 50 watercolour pieces painted inside the Umm Al Quwain mangroves in Dubai\u2019s Gulf region on her kayak.<\/p>\n<p>The \u201cconductor\u201d of Zahida\u2019s display is a large size painting titled \u201cCoffee Morning\u201d and represents Zahidah\u2019s daily world amid the expanse of the mangroves.<\/p>\n<p>Zahidah feels deeply connected to the mangrove areas around the world and her sense of responsibility for them is akin to looking after a family and protecting them.<\/p>\n<p>Zahidah may not be able to stop the war in her homeland of Syria, but she can run a campaign to protect the mangroves and in turn, the Earth.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cMangroves and sea grass are very effective in reducing the carbon from the air and providing us with oxygen, and so it\u2019s madness to harm them,\u201d Zahidah said.<\/p>\n<p>Zahidah is a master\u2019s graduate in Visual Arts from Monash University.<\/p>\n<p>A thematic artist, her work focuses on humanity and nature, influenced by mythology, poetry, science and philosophy.<\/p>\n<p>Her work often highlights forgotten issues.<\/p>\n<p>Zahidah has worked almost entirely from her kayak in the Dubai mangroves, sketching water colours upon different types of paper.
