MAJOR Road Projects Victoria (MPRV) is applying the finishing touches to the $117 million Drysdale Bypass before it opens to traffic in July.
\nWorks on the Bellarine Railway overpass and pedestrian underpass linking the education, arts and sporting precinct from Peninsula Drive to the Drysdale township are almost complete.
\nThe final stages of asphalting and line marking the road and the installation of safety barriers and signage are also well advanced, as MRPV program director Tim Price explained.
\n\u201cWe\u2019re excited to be entering the final stages of construction on the $117 million Drysdale Bypass,\u2019\u2019 he said.
\n\u201cThe new bypass will give local roads and streets back to local drivers, boost safety and ease congestion through the heart of Drysdale by diverting hundreds of trucks off High Street each day.\u201d
\nMore than 120,000 trees, plants and ground coverings native to the Bellarine Peninsula are being planted along the alignment to enhance roadside reserves and conserve animal habitats.
\nThe 25-metre long arched rail overpass features a split stone finish and has been designed to match the area\u2019s rural and
\nhistoric landscape.
\nSpeed limits will be reduced when the 6km bypass opens to traffic to allow work to continue on drainage, landscaping, walking and cycling paths, and permanent lighting.
\nMRPV<\/a> said the community will be kept updated as plans for the opening of the bypass are finalised in the coming weeks.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
