COMMUNITY feedback will help guide the management of Ocean Grove’s Blue Waters Lake Reserve over the next decade as the City of Greater Geelong council works to update the existing master plan with a new framework.<\/p>\n

Responses will help shape a discussion paper for the 7.4 hectare reserve and residents have until September 20 to detail what they value about the area and how they use it in a short online questionnaire.
\nThe present Blue Waters Lake Reserve master plan was developed back in 2002.<\/p>\n

The council says the reserve is a unique wetland habitat that provides a peaceful oasis among its surrounding residential homes.<\/p>\n

It is a popular place for exercise, scenic walks and bird watching, with the grassed areas of the reserve providing space for gatherings (when permitted) by the water.<\/p>\n

Geelong mayor Stephanie Asher said the area was one of Ocean Grove’s hidden jewels and beloved by the community.<\/p>\n

“The current master plan for the space needs updating and with so many visitors to this beautiful spot, it’s a terrific opportunity for the community to help shape the area so it can be enjoyed into the future,” she said.<\/p>\n

“It’s really important we hear from as many people as possible, so I encourage you to let the team know what you like about the reserve, how you use the space, improvement ideas to enhance its natural charm and your knowledge of the plants, birdlife and animals there.”<\/p>\n

Her sentiments were echoed by council’s environment portfolio chair, Cr Eddy Kontelj.<\/p>\n

“Blue Waters Lake Reserve is home to a vast range of bird, animal and plant life which need to be protected for future generations, while the lake plays a vital part in the local drainage network,” he said.<\/p>\n

“This significant environmental asset brings so much joy to the community, so it would be great to hear from the different types of users of this reserve.”<\/p>\n
