OCEAN Grove Coastcare will host a breakfast with Captain Trash next weekend to promote its plastic-free initiative.<\/p>\n
Captain Trash is the alter ego of Port Phillip \u201cbaykeeper\u201d Neil Blake, who will be in town on November 11 to spread messages about preventing plastic pollution and what you can do to reduce it.<\/p>\n
Neil has over three decades in environmental management and was the feature in the award-winning documentary Baykeepers.<\/p>\n
Through his persona as Captain Trash, Neil uses music and humour to teach the five \u201cARRRGHS\u201d: Refuse, Reduce, Re-use, Recycle and Remove and is passionate about spreading the message to \u201cleave only footprints on the sand\u201d.<\/p>\n
He is particularly popular with the younger generation, but his messages resonate with the bigger children too.<\/p>\n
Following the breakfast at Driftwood Caf\u00e9 between 7.30am and 9am, Captain Trash will be roaming The Terrace meeting with local shoppers between 9am and 10.30am.<\/p>\n
During this time, Ocean Grove Coastcare will host a stall at Driftwood Caf\u00e9 where you can learn more about going plastic free and purchase a locally designed jute bag for $5.<\/p>\n
A free coffee voucher for Driftwood Caf\u00e9 will be included with each jute bag sale.<\/p>\n
The event is part of Ocean Grove Coastcare\u2019s plastic free initiative, encouraging local residents and visitors to ditch single use plastics.<\/p>\n
Anyone is welcome to join Captain Trash for breakfast.<\/p>\n
