{"id":3491,"date":"2017-12-08T05:17:52","date_gmt":"2017-12-08T05:17:52","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/timesnewsgroup.com.au\/bellarinetimes\/?p=3491"},"modified":"2017-12-08T05:17:52","modified_gmt":"2017-12-08T05:17:52","slug":"restored-memorial-opens-next-week","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/timesnewsgroup.com.au\/bellarinetimes\/news\/restored-memorial-opens-next-week\/","title":{"rendered":"Restored memorial opens next week"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>A LONG-forgotten soldiers\u2019 memorial at Mannerim that has been restored by a group of dedicated volunteers will officially open next week.<\/p>\n<p>The Mannerim Memorial Opening and a Remembrance Service will be held at the site on Swan Bay Road (next to the Rail Trail) on November 11.<\/p>\n<p>Celebrations will start with a smoking ceremony and Welcome to Country by Corinna Eccles from the Wadawurrung at 9.45am, followed by a police chaplain consecrating the site, and Bellarine MP Lisa Neville cutting the ribbon.<\/p>\n<p>The daughter of Lighthorseman and Mannerim man Sloan \u2018Scotty\u2019 Bolton, Margaret Grant, will talk about her dad and her memories of events in the hall. A remembrance service will follow at 11am.<\/p>\n<p>The site was originally set up in memorial of all soldiers who volunteered for World War I from in and around the area, including Mannerim, Swan Bay, Marcus Hill and St Leonards.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>A LONG-forgotten soldiers\u2019 memorial at Mannerim that has been restored by a group of dedicated volunteers will officially open next week.
